How to Shop The Post Holiday Sales

50% off at Net-A-Porter, up to 70% off Saks- You get it the honorable post holiday sales and this year due to the sluggish sales during the holidays you may be able to make like a banshee and get some fab steals. However, shopping on sale is great but there are still a few rules to abide by to make the best purchase possible.

Don‘t buy it just because it’s on sale!
If your not engaged wtf would you buy a wedding gown just because its 80% off- Believe me there are people who do that! That maybe extreme but I am simply telling you that just because something is on sale, doesn’t mean it should be bought. Instead follow these tips when power shopping post holiday.

Would I have bought this at full price?
Simple, have you been eyeing this piece when it was at the retail price- if yes, try it on and go step two below. If not, leave it on the damn rack and keep it moving!

Does this item go with at least three things I already own?
If yes go to the next step. Maybe means it goes well with some accessories you have, think about it, as a matter of fact, put it on hold, call your mom or a friend and think about it.
If not, leave that bad boy right there.

Will I wear this within the next 6-12 months?
This is super easy; if you are drooling over a cocktail dress and you only attend one special occasion every two years- let it go. If you are a size 14 and it’s a 6 let it go. It will just end in the back of your closet and money down the drain.

Will my wardrobe stock go up or down with this purchase?
Silly purchases maybe fun for a life that doesn’t exist- FYI- I do wear my sequin items, thank you very much! Seriously, spoof pieces get great laughs, but if you aren’t bold enough to wear them- leave it to the bold people- 09 is the time to shine!

Now pull out that unlimited Metrocard and run to Bloomy’s to get all there great Cashmeres. Don’t forget Barney’s shoe floor and even better Club Monaco for some great staple pieces- let me know if that clutch is on sale!

Shareen's Vintage- Amazin As All Hell!

Two trains, ice, sleet and a plowed in doorway led me to Shareen's Vintage out in Manhasset over the weekend and it was a joyous experience. Warning- there will be a lot of hatred after this post. So what are the great things about Shareen's- how do I count the ways? First of all it is super cozy, its like trying on clothes in your apartment- great lighting, amazing mirrors and impecabble service. In addition the prices are excellent, lastly, there is an amazing collection of pieces from the late 40's up to late 1980's early 90's. It was such an amazing experience of shopping the racks knowing you where getting something no one has. I pranced through the racks looking for the usual, anything fur, and dresses. Personally, I like certain vintage pieces more than others. I love vintage fur, I love long jersey dresses and then belts and bags. Shareen had all of that and although I had to edit my picks, I scored an amazing coat dress, a wool tunic, sequin belt and a brocade dress with mink trim- tres chic. Shareen's was a great experience and I hope you get a chance to visit her store in LA or when she comes to NY in January. Check out her site and see a few pics below and enjoy your holiday! See you in the New Year!
