Moderated by Lola Ogunnaike: Married for 5 years
Lola Ogunnaike is one of the leading pop culture authorities in the
country. In her decade-long career, she’s covered many major
entertainment and culture stories and interviewed everyone from Oprah
Winfrey to Sting.
She is currently a contributor to CNN International’s African Voices, a
weekly interview series. She’s talked books with author Chinua Achebe,
music with singer Youssou Ndour and the catwalk with supermodel Iman.
Prior to African Voices, she was the entertainment correspondent for
CNN’s flagship news program, "American Morning," where she, for two years,
covered the Oscars, the Grammys, the Inauguration and a host of other
events. Before joining CNN, Lola spent five years as a culture
reporter for The New York Times and spearheaded its entertainment
coverage, profiling luminaries like Chris Rock, Merv Griffin and
Jennifer Lopez for the "Arts and Leisure" section, as well as trend and
fashion stories for the paper’s "Style" section.
She has also been a reporter at the New York Daily News and a
contributing writer for VIBE magazine, where she wrote more than a dozen
cover stories. Her work has also been published in Rolling Stone,
Elle, New York Magazine, USA Today, Glamour
and Food & Wine. Lola has also made regular guest appearances on NBC's Today Show,
Larry King Live, The View, BET, MTV and VH1. In
May 2007, she was named one of Ebony magazine's "150 Most
Influential Blacks in America." Lola received her master's in fine
arts degree in journalism from New York University and a bachelor's
degree in English literature from the University of Virginia.

Melka Davis: Married for 10 years
As Director of Integrated Marketing Communications at Mizani, a Professional Salon Products division at L'Oreal USA, Melka Davis leads brand-equity building by fostering partnerships, developing media plans and interactive marketing strategies. Her uniquely designed role has significantly contributed to doubling the size of the business within her tenure. With over 15 years professional experience, she's also held various entertainment marketing, promotions and public affairs positions at Nickelodeon where she developed key programs for their pro-social and movies marketing initiatives. A native New Yorker, presently residing outside of the city with her husband Derrick and their two children, Melka holds a Masters of Business Communication from Emerson College and a Bachelors degree from Boston College. Married over a decade, she is a committed wife and mother with a passion for music, the arts, and leisure time with her family.
Sarah James Irby: Married for 11 years
Sarah James Irby was born and raised in Charleston, WV. She received her BA from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA where she double majored in French and Philosophy. While at Spelman College, she studied abroad in Strasbourg, France her junior year. This life changing experience broadened her view of the world, and laid the foundation for her love of travel, language, and finding common ground between people from different cultures. Upon graduating from college, Sarah worked as a financial analyst on Wall Street. After three years, Sarah pursued an MBA in Marketing at NYU Stern School of Business where she was co-president of the International Business Association. During her MBA studies, she spent a semester at the top French business school, L’Ecole Des Hautes Etudes Commerciales, where she earned a certificate of International Management. Sarah’s educational background, investment banking experience, international exposure and fluency in French poised her to land her first marketing job at L’Oreal, the world’s largest manufacturer and marketer of beauty products. Having a passion for the industry, Sarah rose through the ranks, gaining increased responsibility at top beauty companies. She is currently Executive Director of Global Consumer Marketing at Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, overseeing Customer Relationship Management, Consumer Insights and Social/Digital Media Marketing for the $350 million business distributed in 50 countries. Sarah balances a demanding career and travel schedule with caring for her family, yet finds time to practice yoga, collect fine art, and serve as a member of the Curator’s Circle at the Studio Museum in Harlem. Sarah resides in New York City with her husband Derek and their two children, Derek, Jr. age 7, and Ingrid age 4.
Kendra Bracken-Ferguson: Married for 18 months
Kendra Bracken-Ferguson is currently the Director, Digital Media,
Corporate Communications at Polo Ralph Lauren. Kendra works across the
brand management, marketing, advertising and public relations teams to
develop and drive a cohesive approach to social media. Ms.
Bracken-Ferguson is responsible for the launch of the company’s first
dedicated social media influencer program.
Prior to joining Polo Ralph Lauren, Kendra was a Vice President in the
Digital Practice Group at Fleishman-Hillard New York specifically
responsible for overseeing the digital consumer team and developing
social media strategies for her clients including AT&T, Motorola,
DKNY, Reebok, Nine West, Gatorade, P&G. Her background includes online interactive and integrated marketing with
specialties in influencer relations, digital communications,
viral/Word-of-Mouth marketing, event management and youth marketing.
Kendra has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Public
Relations, a minor in English and certificate of completion in Spanish
from Purdue University. She completed her Masters of Business
Administration with a concentration in marketing and specialized course
work in Event Marketing from Keller Graduate School of Management in
2007. She is on the board for New York Women in Communications and serves as Vice
President of the Integrated Marketing Committee.
Kesha Franklin: Married for 10 years
Kesha Franklin is the Principal of The Beautiful Experience, an events and lifestyle company. She has worked in the Special Events Industry for more than ten years producing and executing national and local events in the corporate, nonprofit, and social arenas. Kesha wields exceptional organizational skills, and a key eye to detail, giving projects the intricate management attention it deserves. She has long been connected to the entertainment industry and brings her extensive celebrity contacts to enhance the talent procurement services of her company.
Coupled with her great sense of style, Kesha is a major factor in managing high fashion related events and decor design on projects, which has led her to fulfill her new passion of Interior Design. She has been successfully transforming interior spaces for 3 years. The Beautiful Experience is a collective collaboration of her love for events, interior design and fashion. Kesha is also a proud mother of two and has been happily married for 10 years to deejay Clark Kent. She resides in Brooklyn, NY.
