AMBER Awareness
The charitable Causes We Support

As a part of our corporate belief system, we have three pillars that we support for the continual growth of women and young children: health, education and career/personal development initiatives. The charitiable causes and non-profit organizations we support include:

hivribbons.jpgHIV/AIDS Awareness:  The face of those affected most by HIV/AIDS has changed from white, male, homosexual to Black, Hispanic, female, heterosexual. It is the number one cause of death for African American women between the ages of 25 to 34. That's why we support the efforts of Young Women of Color HIV Aids Coalition (YWCHAC), a New York City-based organization that targets young women via testing, safe sex parties, political empowerment and health fairs; and Gay Men's Health Aids Coalition, the oldest HIVAIDS organization created to help service those living with HIV, and assist in curbing the spread of the disease. Today, GMHAC treats an overwhelming amount of women, particularly women of color, in the United States who have been infected.

cancerribbons.jpgCancer Awareness: While women of color have lower numbers of infection from cancer, we are the most likely to die from it due to late-stage diagnosis. According to  the CDC, breast cancer is the number one cause of death for Hispanic women and the number two cause of death among African-American women. More African-American women die from lung cancer than any other type of cancer; and it is the second cause of death for Hispanic women. We support organizations that advocate for preventative measures, treatment and medical research. Those organizations include the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention in Harlem, and Young Survial Coalition, which is a support system for women diagnosed with breast cancer ages 40 and under.

education.jpgEducation/Career Development: We are firm believers that proper education is the key to opening closed doors. We support innovative educational efforts on a national and international level designed to properly train the minds of our youngest future. And we also are keenly aware that learning to succeed does not end in the class room. Navigating the path to a successful career and life is often hard without guidance and support from a network of counselors who have previously walked those paths—and are willing to show the next generation a lit pathway. No where is that more evident than with first-generation college students who may lack access to financial and professional guidance. We are committed to groups and organizations that assist in closing these gaps via relevant speaker series and career development programs. We support New York Women in Communications, Inc. (where our founder served on its board of directors for five years), whose Foundation provides scholarships to female college and graduate students seeking to study communications; the Macdella Cooper Foundation, which feeds and educates orphans and abandoned children in Liberia, and is currently building the MCF Academy, the first free school built in post-war Liberia.
