The launch of a handbag line

A few weeks ago, Ralph Lauren unveiled its newest line Lauren by Ralph Lauren Handbags during an evening of champagne and hors d’oeuvres, much to the delight of the fashion bloggers in attendance who lingered in front of the bags that made their hearts flutter. And I was no exception. I fell in love with everything as soon as I entered the room, though I initially sighed a sigh of sadness when I spied the walls lined with luxe bag after luxe bag: I was sure the closest I’d get to having one was renting it on Bagborroworsteal.com. This was before realizing that almost all the bags for the new line are under $500!
So when my eyes met the Larchmont Cross-Body ($248.00), I knew I had to HAVE it! It’s the perfect size ladies; large enough to stash a pair of ‘end of the night’ flats without going into sloppy territory (I don’t know about you, but I don’t fancy bags that can hold small children). And the detailing! I loved the buckles on the front pocket and the long strap. It’s practically made for a harried day running around New York or any other city. The line offers 29 different bags ranging from wristlets and wallets to cross bodies, totes, satchels, hobos and weekenders. Key things to note? The designer stayed true to the signature Ralph Lauren look, featuring equestrian-inspired details on bags like those in the Larchmont and Modernaire offerings, and they’re all incredibly functional. I was told all the bags went through a “cell phone test” to make sure typical items (phones, compacts, iPods) were easily accessible. The bags range from less than $100 (wristlets and wallets) to up to $998 (weekender). But for the quality alone, I’d happily pay more.
