10 Hair REsolutions
1. I promise to listen to my hairstylist and do as instructed. No
longer will I not listen to my stylist when they offer tips for proper
maintenance.
2. I promise that this year I will truly get to know my hair, it's
texture, what it likes what it doesn't and act like my hair is a part
of the rest of my body. No longer will I take it for granted and just
sit in the stylist chair and not ask questions (even when I get the
information from the internet forums).
3. I resolve to treat my hair like it's my lifelong partner whom I
adore. Therefore I'll protect it by refusing to let anyone touch it who doesn't have the right
credentials; doesn't understand my particular texture and does not
listen to me when I am in a consultation.
4. I promise to always try products designed for my particular hair
needs (once I know them), all the while realizing that most hair have more than one
texture and therefore may require more than one type of product to
treat it effectively.
5. I promise that if I apply a relaxer at-home that I will follow up
with a salon visit to have my ends trimmed—especially if I have short
hair to remove the areas where I overprocessed my hair.
6. I promise to eat healthy, fatty foods (i.e., almonds, avocado,
salmon), that will help to nourish my hair and skin while giving me
overall great health.
7. I promise not to become a natural hair elitist as I, and after I, transition from "creamy crack," to au naturale.
8. If I wear weaves and braids, I promise to change how my hair is parted and styled every six to eight weeks to prevent thinning and traction alopecia around my edges.
9. I promise to not use my hair as an excuse not to exercise by
alternating heavy cardio days with wearing a ponytail or slicking it
down if my hair is short. This allows me to really look good from head to toe.
10. I promise to only wear lace-front wigs every day if I have a
medical condition, am starring in a film or performing on stage every day.
If I am not doing those things, I promise to use extensions for added
length, and to take care of my natural hair underneath because I understand that without a salon professional and heavy stage makeup, a lace-front wig looks extremely un-natural in person.
