"Which color would you like?" That's what the manicurist holding my hand asked as she prepared to jazz up my sorry-looking nails. I honestly couldn't decide; I paint my nails as often as Britney Spears sings live. I also couldn't believe I was being treated to a manicure! But that was the name of the game at Melky Jean’s birthday party/silent auction. On June 21st the singer, performer, songwriter and philanthropist held her second annual fundraiser, "Gemini's Give Back," at the Griffin Hotel to raise money for her organization, the Carma foundation. The non-profit provides food, housing assistance, and medical support, to people in Jean’s native Haiti.
Some of the guests who came out to support Jean’s organization were World Boxing Council Welterweight Champion, Andre Berto, actors Lynn Whitfield and Jamie Hector and Sheree Whitfield and Dwight Eubanks of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
With painters Elie Lescot and Patrick Gerald Wah’s works, products like M2M nail polishes and jewelry by Stacey Angela all up for bidding, there was something for everyone to go a little gaga over. I, for one, fell in love with a pair of turquoise earrings Angela had at her station. In addition to the silent bidding going on, ThisThatBeauty makeup artist and blogger Felicia Walker Benson gave mini makeovers at the beauty bar, M2M polishes, created by renowned manicurist Myrdith Leon-McCormack, were available for purchase (a percentage of each bottle sold was donated to the foundation), cupcakes were passed out by the cute models wearing Carma T-shirts and food was provided by the very authentic Havana Alma De Cuba...complete with a cigar roller. The event was a fun way to pass the time and contribute to a great cause.
