Launch Party for Sam Fine Basics of Beauty DVD
It was a celebration of the man with the magic hands and the fact that he will enable you to be the same. On Thursday, June 18th, Sam Fine, celebrity makeup artist extraordinaire, threw a fete to celebrate the launch of his long-awaited how-to DVD: Sam Fine Basics of Beauty. Hosted by supermodel, Iman, it was held at the Warren-Tricomi Salon at the Plaza, where celebrities Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty), Wendy Williams (The Wendy Williams Show), R&B singer, Deborah Cox, Oscar-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson (in town shooting new movies), Project Runway finalist, Korto Momulu and the most famous Drag Queen of them all, RuPaul.
The party was A-list, featuring top celebrity hairstylists—Keith Campbell (Keri Hilson), Ursula Stephens (Rihanna), Tippi Shorter (Alicia Keys), Q (Iman, Kimora Lee Simmons)—and makeup artists, A.J. Crimson (LeToya Luckett and founder of Kissable Couture), Ashunta Sheriff (Alicia Keys) and more. But my personal favorite was reconnecting with Wouri Vice, fashion stylist for Alicia Keys, who sometimes works with Taraji, and was tons of fun. Co-sponsored by NUVO, guests sipped on special cocktails like the Iman Tonic, the Sam Fine Sparkling Sunset and the Fine Basic Beauty (Vodka on the rocks). Why a DVD? "Having dedicated my career to enhancing the beauty in women of color, I felt that an instructional DVD was a natural step toward my goal of educating women everywhere," says Fine. "Translating trends and finding products that deliver have helped me become more sensitive to "real" women who don't have the time, patience or know-how to experiement with makeup.
