Beloved comedian loses battle with pneumonia
Comedian and actor Bernie Mac died on Friday after being hospitalized for several weeks with pneumonia. Known best for his comedic observations about race and family, Mac received fame in the latter part of his career, breaking through the mainstream glass ceiling with his hit weekly series, The Bernie Mac Show where each episode he broke the "fourth wall" by talking directly to the camera for a little father knows best theory on child-rearing.
Mac ended his series to concentrate more on movie opportunities, where he either starred or co-starred in films such as Mr. 3000; Pride; Guess Who?; and Transformers. In an ironic twist, his next film, Soul Men, set to be released in November, co-starred Isaac Hayes, who died one day after Mac's untimely demise.
