Steel Magnolias To Be Remade With All-Black Cast

Posted on May 2, 2012 By admin

This just announced in: Lifetime is set to remake the 1989 classic film "Steel Magnolias" with an all-star black cast.

Set to be directed by Kenny Leon (above), who was the director of "A Raisin In The Sun" and the current Broadway production "Mountaintop," starring Angela Bassett and Samuel L. Jackson, the remake will be produced by Craig Zadan, Neil Meron and Sony Pictures TV, reports Deadline.com.

The original movie, which was based on a play by Robert Harling, featured an all-star cast of Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Darryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, and Julia Roberts. While Deadline.com reports that the film has not been greenlit, it is on a fast track with top names already being attached.

We'd love to see a combination of theatrical and movie thespians in this. At the top of our list: Angela Bassett, Viola Davis, Phylicia Rashad, Kerry Washington, Sanaa Lathan, Tika Sumpter. Who would you like to see in the Steel Magnolia remake?
