According to police report, Evelyn filed a domestic violence report stating that Chad head-butt her during an argument over a receipt for condoms. But low and behold, neither VH1 nor the Miami Dolphins thought this was the type of media attention they wanted. The network, notorious for portraying women of color in the utmost negative light (with boycotts and all), decided to cancel the show and blamed the weekend's incident as the cause. "Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series "Ev and Ocho" from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it," said the network in a statement. Simultaneously, when the news went national the Miami Dolphins dropped him from his contract the very next day. The network taped 11 episodes, which included their wedding that occurred on July 4th. The series, which was reportedly made on a budget of $350,000, was set to air beginning September 4th.
Ironically, if Evelyn had not filed a police report—something she and Shaunie were so angry with Jennifer about—none of this would have come out as the incident occurred without any cameras. But domestic violence is something VH1 takes seriously, especially after a former reality show member was accused of murdering his wife.
What do you think? Should they have cancelled the show or let it run its course?
