Why it's A Must-See: This modern romantic comedy is as witty as it is sexy. Starring two oddly coupled rising film stars--pop music heartthrob, Justin Timberlake and Black Swan co-star, Mila Kunis--as Dylan and Jamie, two wildly successful and ambitious twenty-somethings each discouraged by their fallen relationships. Her mother (played by veteran actor Patricia Clarkson) is a spacey unreliable philanderer and his family (Jenna Elfman as his loyal sister) is dealing with his father’s (played by Richard Jenkins) rapid spiral with Alzheimer’s.
With similar recent histories of being dumped for harsh reasons, the two form a bond after Jamie, who lives on the West Coast, recruits Dylan for a dream job in New York City. These two seamlessly fall into a friendship that leads to sex with no strings attached. Yes, both vow to leave all emotions at the door or on the floor and at first this goes pretty well until someone decides that they want to date other people again. When another relationship goes sour, emotions fly both for and against taking things further. Directed by Will Gluck and beautifully representing the best of both the East and the West coast, this romper of a sex guide feels familiar but very current as it boasted as much technology (sexting, etc.) as it does sex scenes.
Friends with Benefits is a great date film, cheesy and sexy, all at once that make you leave the theater believing in love or just wanting great sex.
