Joining forces with the Romare Bearden Foundation for its summer 2011 tour, ArtCrawl Harlem's next guided trolley-bus ride will be a four-hour excursion focusing on Bearden’s life and work in Harlem.
Visitors will stopy by six galleries and museums, showcasing works by Bearden as well as pieces that pay homage to his enduring legacy in Harlem and beyond. Attendees will hear from tour guides, some who knew the renowned artist personally, as they share how he influenced contemporaries like Leroy Campbell and used his power to give other black artists a foothold into the art world at large.
The featured galleries include:
The Studio Museum in Harlem;
Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture;
Canvas Paper and Stone Gallery;
Essie Green Galleries;
Rio II Gallery;
Dwyer Cultural Center
The tour will be followed by a reception that includes a full dinner, wine and live jazz music.
Tickets are $55 in advance and can be purchased two ways: by telephone at 800-838-3006 or online at Artcrawlharlem.com.
