I Like Lamar's Emotions Even If the Mavericks Don't

Posted on May 2, 2012 By admin

One of the readons why I actually enjoy watching Khloe and Lamar on E is because every time there is a problem, we get to see Lamar Odom not be afraid to show emotion to his wife.

Rare is the time we've ever seen him "act a fool," or not "cop to being wrong," or to set Khloe's mind at ease about how he feels about her. The 32-year Lamar exudes a maturity that is akin to most men in their 40s. Especially most athletes.

But apparently being in touch with his emotions, or rather, not being afraid to show how much he loved being a Laker, and how much it hurt to be traded, has become a problem for his current team, the Dallas Mavericks. Anxiety to perform better than he did on the Lakers, and prove he was more than worthy of the trade all in front of the cameras seemed to be too much.

Add to the mix last year's death of a young boy caused by a driver  he hired while in town for a cousin's funeral proved to be emotionally draining. The result? Lamar performed worse while there than he ever did in his entire career.  All of these sudden woes would play on any person's psyche. And playing all of this out on reality television doesn't help matters. So when a news announcement reporting a parting of the ways between Mavericks and Lamar, it seemed it was only a matter of time. "The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it's in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team," he said in a statement to ESPN.com. "I'm sorry that things didn't work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs' organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.”

Now we have experts saying Lamar chose being a "reality star husband" over being a basketball player. And that "the Mavs were tired of him moping around," claims The New York Post. Ouch. The sad truth is there have been countless marriages (most of the Real Housewives—from Jersey to Orange County and now NeNe and Greg of RHOA) and relationships that have fallen apart once the cameras started rolling. And while we certainly don't hope that is the case for Lamar and Khloe, who have, by all counts, found love in the hopeless place of reality tea, we do wonder what price is fame on marriages and careers when all is played out for the world to see, comment and tweet about. Can any marriage—high profile or not—survive those bright lights shining on both parties. For Khloe and Lamar, our wish is that the odds be forever in their favor.
